Re: Saving svg image, not svg page

The SVG standard has height and width parameters which Inkscape always sets. Therefore, everything it produces has a "page". They had the same problem with PostScript, so they invented Encapsulated PostScript do deal with it. But SVG is an XML standard and linking an external file to XML i...

Re: Saving the svg image for web

Pixels is an abstract size. The actual size will change depending on the resolution of the device. Yes, it changes. That is the nature of the beast. Nothing you can do about it.

If you want control over the actual size, don't use pixels. Use a real measurement.

When I export my document it is being exported as 8-bit. How do I make Inkscape export PNG as 24-bit w/ transparency?

Any help is much appreciated.

24 bits per pixel is 8 bits per colour. And you cannot see more than 8 bits per colour. You can only see about 8000 colours, not 16 million.

Re: Preview mode?

Inkscape is a WYSIWYG editor. What you see is also the preview mode.

As for a print preview, monitors have lower resolutions than printers. That means what you see on screen will not be what is printed, ever.

Re: Lock file to prevent simultaneous edits

Hi! Can inkscape generate a lock file when it opens, to prevent someone else opening that file? I need this to prevent accidental loss of work - two of our team open the same file on our server, make different edits and save. The one who saves first loses their work. Many thanks, Ed Use git . Git i...

If it's a raster image, you would be better off using a raster-image editor, like GIMP.

For each part I want to change, I would use Edit -> Duplicate , Ctrl-D, to create a copy in-place and remove the nodes that do not belong to the part. Then I would tweak the part to the correct shape and colour it. This way, in case I mess up, I only have redo the last part; the original remains unc...

Re: Why the image size increases after exporting to png?

Pixels are abstract and have no fixed physical size. Dpi only has meaning if the device has fix physical dimension, like printers or scanners. Monitors come in a variety of sizes and resolutions, which means they have no fixed size. And finally, pixels are not dpi. Thinking there are will cause conf...

Re: Has Inkscape fixed it's ppi issue yet?

@shawnhcorey, Many of the trifolds and flyer templates I use were created in AI and need AI for editing. Nearly all of the templates I purchase were created using AI. That's why I'm thinking that InkScape would be better than a photo editor. Well I think Inkscape is the best, so there's no argument...

Re: Has Inkscape fixed it's ppi issue yet?

I'm more worried about what a PDF of a trifold will look like. I need them to be of the highest quality to give to clients for printing. Printers expect 300ppi to 600ppi. Guess I'll make a few and print them to see what happens. If you save as a PDF file, it should save it as vectors, not bitmaps. ...

Re: Inkscape or GIMP - which is best for my project

Inkscape. The advantage of using SVG (Inkscape) is that it can be rendered to different resolutions. Converting images to pixels can be delayed to the last minute where the resolution of the device can be used. They can be shown at the maximum resolution of the device. This eliminates the blocky or ...

The circle is in segment mode. To change it to a full circle, click on the object and select the circle tool. In the tool's toolbar, click on the full circle (the one on the end).
