Thanks for the help. I was able to get this to work with Inkscape for Windows and the same version of Inkscape for OS X on another, newer machine (2014 Macbook Pro). Seems to be an issue with the setup I was working with at the time (iMac 2008)?

Inkscape seems to just ignore the "Export Bitmap" command. I've tried selecting it from the menu and the keyboard shortcut. As far as I can tell, it does nothing. No dialogue box, no error, no change in the window, nothing. Any idea why Inkscape would just ignore a request to Export Bitmap...
