changes in Tricks and Tutorials board

Postby brynn » Sun Apr 15, 2018 12:55 pm

Hi Friends,
In updating Inkscape Community's tutorials listings, I've learned that sadly, all the heathenx.screencasters.org tutorials have been removed and their site closed down. The videos are even removed from YouTube.

So I would propose to un-sticky that topic.

And I would also propose to make the topic about Xav's tutorials in Full Circle Magazine sticky.

What do others think?

That's a real shame - Heathenx's tutorials were a great resource. I've un-stickied the thread now.

Due to an ever-so-slight conflict of interest, I haven't stickied the Full Circle Magazine topic. If someone else wants to do that, then that's fine with me, but I'm equally happy with it as a normal thread.

I'd like to make an official request to make those sticky :)

(and if anyone thinks that the vektorrascheln tuts are useful, feel free... link to part I)

As far as I know, currently only Xav can do the sticky-ing. (well, microUgly too, of course) (It's the way the forum is set up, currently. It's probably possible to allow others to do it, but would need some permission changes.)

I think it's important that Xav's tutorials are sticky, to make sure they remain easy to find. I don't know how long he'll keep publishing them. But once new ones are not coming out each month, the sticky-ness will keep them from getting bumped down the page.

Yes, Moini's newbie guide would be good to sticky as well! (Both part 1 and part 2) This topic: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=23075

I didn't notice this before, but the one titled "Development builds with sexy features" or something like that, is very outdated, and probably should either be updated, or unstickied.

Other sticky candidates?

I've looked through the permissions section of the Administrator Control Panel and... I give up. I can't work out how to enable this option for moderators. I'll investigate more when I have the time, but it doesn't look like a simple toggle.

Based on my original plans, the series will run to about 10 or 12 articles ;)

I reckon there's about a year to run on them, then I plan to have the occasional follow-up when a new release has some features worth highlighting. But that's just my current plan and, of course, things can easily change. Still, all it needs is someone to post a monthly reply to the topic saying how wonderfully useful, and still really quite relevant, they are so that they never drop off the front page

Or I'll just sticky them (as it seems that I'm the only one who can).

I don't have time right now to actually do the sticky-ing, but I'll review each of the links you've provided and decide what to do with each of them as soon as I can.

The real reason I'm posting is to say that I've been in touch with HeathenX, and he's quite happy for the videos to be posted somewhere else. We need to work out the details, but it looks like they won't be lost forever after all.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. This is one of the many places where SMF is much easier to use than phpBB. (I don't mind having a deep look into it, but you'd have to temporarily promote me.) (It's also possible that phpBB does not allow this to be changed.)

Oh, that would be awesome. I had originally considered to save them to Inkscape Community (because he did offer them before), but I forgot, and time went by, and suddenly they were gone. Anyway, I could take them now. Or later we could incorporate into the new forum, maybe....

Or else, what about just putting them back up on YouTube? Hhmm....or were they ever there? I thought they were, but maybe not.

From my emails with him, I don't think they were ever on YouTube, but that's his preferred destination for them now. There's a third party who may already be in the process of putting them up there - I'm waiting to hear back from him before pressing too far ahead to avoid a duplication of effort.

I should have them all downloaded on my work machine now, but I'm not in the office until next week to confirm they're okay.

There are more than I realised, so it'll take a while to get them all on YouTube, but I'll get it done as promptly as I can.

I'm sure there's no rush.

Thanks for looking into this, and for your time and efforts.
