I had to re-install Windows7 recently and now I'm working on re-installing all my software.
Inkscape 0.4.8 installed fine but when I try to go into Preferences, I get a message that an internal error occurred and that Inkscape needs to exit. Windows' crash "report" says the problem was in: msvcrt.dll
I have an Wacom Intuos 4 tablet and in Inkscape's "Input Devices", I UNchecked "use pressure sensitive tablet" because I remember that it was a fix for another problem I used to have. Then I tried going into Preferences again but Inkscape crashed. I've also tried it with "use pressure sensitive tablet" checked but that did not help, Inkscape still crashed when I try going into Preferences.
Otherwise, Inkscape seems to work ok, I can draw freely with either the mouse or the stylus.
What can be done so that I can get into Inkscape's Preferences? I haven't seen any info on that.
preferences crash in 0.48 on windows7
Re: preferences crash in 0.48 on windows7
delete the preferences file from your username/appdata/inkscape folder. Restarting Inkscape will create a nice new prefs file that hopefully will not be corrupted.
Your mind is what you think it is.

Deleting the Preferences file then restarting did not work. It still crashed.
What else should be tried?

OK, to recap - you can use your tablet and the mouse in Inkscape. It only crashes when you try to edit your preferences? Does that mean you CAN use the pressure sensitivity? As in the calligraphy tool? Have you upgraded to 0.48.3 or 0.48.4, available on sourceforge? The problem might have been fixed in later versions.

The version I'm using is 0.48.2.1, so I'll try the newer ones you just mentioned. Thanks!
Re: preferences crash in 0.48 on windows7
After having to re-install Windows 7 (for the 4th time) I finally was able to download 0.48.4 and install it. It did not crash when I went into Preferences. Thanks much for your suggestion!
