Separate text object with line break

Postby slumpmax » Thu Jun 27, 2013 10:05 pm

I often worked on this condition.
copy text from e-mail and paste to Inkscape
then separate it to many text object with line break
and set font type, size and color separately
Can Inkscape do this?

Ouch!
I'm sorry to my carelessness.
I find in extention menu "Text->Split Text" to solve this solution.

I love Inkscape (^O^)

There was an extension for that according to this topic if I get it right:

Links are dead now, but you may get to the writer of the extension.

With a little bit of research, I was able to find the extension mentioned above on github:

However, I think that Inkscape already has what you need built right into it these days. As I was researching how to do this, I remembered previously reading that Inkscape has recently added a bunch of new Text specific features. So, I simply opened up Inkscape and looked to see if this was possible already w/o having to install an extention and sure enough the feature is already there! I already tested it by simply copy & pasting your post into Inkscape and then using the extension on it. It does exactly what you are looking for!

You simply access it from the Extensions menu:

Extiensions > Text > Split Text

Then simply choose the default setting (Lines) and you will be in business. :D

Hope this helps!

Oh sorry I didn't check!

That explains it all, why they were outdated.
My apologies again.

Hehe... Yes, it does explain it. It looks like they simply took the extension you mentioned and made it part of Inkscape out-of-the-box. I couldn't recall installing the extension and I knew I didn't go through the trouble of finding it on Github and then installing it before now. But hey, no need to apologize Lazur, YOU are extremely helpful here on the forum. It seems like every question I find that I think I may be able to help with, you have already provided the solution. And in most cases, your solution is better than what I would come up with anyway. I'm more of a lurker than a poster as evidenced by my low post count, but I do LEARN a LOT through this forum and the links provided, etc.

Thank YOU for all of your help!

Thank's!

Actually I don't know if it's a good thing for the forum that I play a helpdesk for inkscape these days in the long term.
My reasons are that I'm a bit stuck with the things I should do myself so at least I can help others.
But the drawback is that it turns the place less and less inspiring for others to showcase their work as I see it.
Refreshing the competition section would have a better effect I guess.

I know what you mean with playing helpdesk, but at least you are trying to help people which is great. I'm working on a couple of tutorials myself that I'll be putting up here in the next few hours or sooner maybe it will inspire other. One could only hope, I guess.

Phrased like this I can't help but getting the impression that some rogue Inkscape developers illegally and secretly included a copy of Karlissons 'Split Text' extension without notifying its author ;-)

JFTR: The extension was first included in the initial release of Inkscape 0.48 (1), after having been submitted by its author in the bug tracker [in the comments section of a related feature request (2)] and discussed on the developers mailing list (3, 4).

Suv,

Sorry if I offended anyone. I didn't mean it in a way that they stole it. But I didn't do the research to confirm that the author did in fact, submit it for inclusion either. In fact, I kind of assumed that they had permission to use it. It's not the first extension to end up being shipped with it out-of-the-box and it won't be the last, I'm sure. I was just getting the point across that it did the SAME thing and so would do what was needed done. Geez.

Thanks for the confirmation that it's legal though for others that may get the wrong idea. :)
