Is it possible to change posted links to open in a new tab/window by default - at the moment they open in the same window - kind of annoying if you forget to hold shift

Opening up new browser windows is like a vacuum cleaner sales person who starts a visit by emptying an ash tray on the customer's carpet. Don't pollute my screen with any more windows, thanks (particularly since current operating systems have miserable window management).

You might prefer links to open in a new windows, but if I change the code people who don't like this behaviour cannot override it. By not changing the code everyone is free to open or not open links in a new windows. If you use Opera or Firefox you can opens links in a new window easily by middle-clicking the link.

Fair enough I guess - but you could potentially drive guest viewers away as they will follow a link away from your site......maybe never to return

That's exactly the arguement used in the link I provided We could debate it, but my goal for this site is to help people find info on Inkscape. If they find the info they are looking for via this site then that's a success. I don't want to trap them here.

I for one can see both sides of this coin, however.. I like the way this forum works. I am more used to SMF but this is a nice change of pace.

I was almost going to go with SMF. It's far superior to phpBB2. But phpBB3 fixed a lot of those issues and because phpBB is so popular most other forums provide a conversion path for if I change my mind in the future.

Either way I like the new forums!

About links problem, well, I hate it when clicking on link opens it in new window, and usually prefer to avoid visiting such sites (unless they provide something which no one else do, I really need it).
If site opens new links in current page, user can choose to either open it current window or open in new window/tab (I think IE7 supports middle click too), but if site opens pages in new page, end user can not do anything to change that, which is frustrating.

P.S: Nice link microUgly

I guess with using Opera, Firefox or IE7 just right clicking a link to open in a background tab is just s.o.p for me but some people do not always do that I guess.
