[solved] folders and layer masks

Postby BRAXS69 » Wed Sep 17, 2008 2:00 pm

truly an amazing application, and in a league of its own. apart from the usual performance and bug fixes.. i only really only have two suggestions:

Being able to group layers in folders.
And layer Masks..

i know the folder idea for grouping layers might not be hard to implement. but i was wondering if it is at all possible to have a layer mask or something close to it. i ask this because i keep running into a problem where i use blurring to create shadows, but the problem is all to often the blur ends up going past the object. i can fix this by creating a new layer above with a negative of the object. but that would mean that my background layers would have to go on top and i would have to continue to cut out the negative of the image with each layer above (which would mean that i cant move the background objects around because they are all cut up)...

i added the folder idea because often when i draw a object say a human, i use many layers like. guide layer, main layer, clothing layer, and shadowing layer.... etc... so i can quickly get to the parts i need to change... so having a group folder i could use just one mask layer on the folder so that again i dont need to apply multiple layer masks... it would also help keep the layers all neat and tidy

thanks for your time, and keep up the great work. :D

You can create layers within layers, which would be the same as a layer folder?

You can also create masks on a per-object (not per-layer) - the Inkscape GuideFAQsInkscape Mailing ListReport a bug or request a feature
