Resource availability?

Postby brynn » Mon Nov 19, 2007 1:22 pm

Hi Friends,
Will any of the various online resources, user guides, manuals, etc. ever be available either as part of a future version, or as a separate download? The brief research I've done, reveals only the Tamvjong (or something close to that) guide is available for purchase and download. Although I have not checked all of them, I've checked most, and so far, it's only the aforementioned resource that Inkscape users can use offline.

As helpful as these online resources are, I would love to be able to access them without having to log onto the internet.

I wouldn't assume the Inkscape Guide will ever be included.

Hhm...so do you think the tutorials which can be found in the Help menu of the program, will ever be expanded on or added to? ...I guess I'm not understanding why they are so limited. I mean, don't get me wrong, I couldn't do very much on my own, without the help of those tuts. They cover many valuable basics that I couldn't do without. But there are also so many times when I need to consult some of the other resources, and I have to log on to the internet to do so. And it seems a program the caliber of Inkscape should have Help files which address more than the basics, which cover the issues addressed by the online resources. So I'm thinking maybe some of those just haven't been written into the program's Help files yet. Do you think that's the case, that at some point in the future, more Help resources will be included in future releases? Or is what we've got, all we're going to ever have, aside from the online resources?

I can't speak for the developers, but I doubt it's a plan to never include a concise help file. All the work is done by volunteers so it's a matter of someone stepping up to the job.

Aaahh, Image I gotcha!
Too bad, it will be a looooong time before I understand how to actually do the more intermediate to advanced stuff with Inkscape. Because I have the writing skills to contribute, for sure. Just can't see pulling it off without knowing what I would be writing about.

Thanks microUgly.

Too bad, because User Manual is a work in progress. You can join inkscape-docs@ mailing list to find out how to contribute.

Sorry, I was referring to Tavmjong Bah's "A Guide to Inkscape" when I said that. Thanks for providing details on how people can contribute.
