Thanking you all in advance.

Postby ewigginton » Sun Oct 02, 2011 4:19 am

I just wanted to stop by and thank you all in advance for your posts and suggestions. This is my first time here and I am using this as a starting point for teaching myself Inkscape. I am determined to learn it and since I have little to no graphics experience this will probably take me a while. I'll be here reading and I really appreciate all your comments, especially for those true newbies like me.

Thank you so much,

Ellen

Welcome Ellen!

I started using Inkscape (with version 0.44) with very little graphics experience. It's been a long road, and there is still so much more to learn! But it's fun :D
Be sure check out the instructional material listed in my forum signature. And please feel free to ask for help if you get stuck.

Hi there, I'm a newbie too. I've been playing around Inkscape several months. Now, I'm able to draw logos and some cartoons, but still need to improve. Thanks brynn for sharing those links and ewigginton for bringing up this post.

Well, first off: Welcome Newbies!! -waves to all-

If you look at brynn's signature, you'll see a list of links. That HeathenX link is gold, okay? Trust me. Do a few of the video tutorials. You can start here on page 1 and move along. His style of teaching is based on a certain project: "How to make an icon", "How to make a football", "How to add graffiti to a brick wall." But don't be fooled by the individual project name. What makes these tutorials work is how the team lead you to then end product by showing you how individual TOOLS work.

Personally I find tutorials based on examining one tool at a time to be painfully slow as well as not practical. Heathen's tutorials, however, focus on getting a job done. I've found out how to use a number of hitherto unknown tools from them. I suggest taking a peek.

This is the first tutorial. Just click the image of the monitor to start it up. Use the links at the top of the page to move forward to the next tutorial.
