I want to make tshirts with this software and am particularly interested in cooper black Std as a font. Am I allowed to use the fonts available with link scape to produce a graphic that will be put on products I intend to sell?

I have looked everywhere online but I can't find the answer!

Inkscape doesn't come with any fonts in its installation. All of the fonts you see in Inkscape Text tool are those that are installed on your computer, they either came with the system, with some other application or you installed them yourself.

You have to find who the author of the font is and see what license it's released under to find out how you can use it. You can see some of that information by using a font management software on your system.

Ah! Thanks, the author is adobe. I am reading their agreement now... Would you know anything about it? Or whether having a trial affects copyright to use their fonts for commercial use?

Also, would you know of any public domain images one can use online... That are safe from copyright infringement? Thanks

I just checked one of the open source font sites and it does not appear that the cooper black std font is a free font. there are links to buy it. There are several sites that have some open source (free) fonts for commerical use, but you really have to search. I like abstractfonts.com
Gnerally speaking, there's a big difference in fonts that are available for personal use and for commercial use. If you are going to sell an item using any font, it technically needs to be available for commercial use, unless you have gotten (written) permission from the font developer or have purchased it as a commerical font.

My font is from adobe... I don't really understand their uela and I only have an adobe trail... So I technically haven't paid anything for th font. I am going to call their customer service tomorrow and enquire...

Yes I think most licenses allow different font uses once you buy the correct license. But just because the font came with the system doesn't mean you haven't bought it. Ask Adobe and see what you come up with.

This is actually SO annoying for me because i got way into ink press and then made lots of designs which I might not be able to use... All part of the learning process!

Unless I've misunderstood what you want to do, I don't see how there can be any problem here. You apparently have a licence for the font (it probably came with Microsoft Office, or something similar), and aren't intending to redistribute it or install it for use on a large number of computers, so the licence you have ought to be fine. And Cooper Black is so old that the glyph outlines (which is all that would appear on the T-shirts) are presumably out of copyright anyway.

But if you're really worried about it, you should ask on a forum frequented by type designers, who will be much better informed on issues of font licensing than anyone here is likely to be.
