How to paginate in Scribus?

Postby Gabriel » Sat Jun 27, 2009 8:17 pm

Please, tell me how to paginate in Scribus. (I know this is not too much with Inkscape to do but I cannot find a real Scribus-forum. Maybe you can give me an adress too.)
I have tried like this:
I choose the pages in Preferences>Sessions. Then I make a text-field, push CTR+# and I cannot see anything. I cannot apply template either when I want to have the pagination on all pages.

Thank you, I have heard about Google :) ... Naturally I searched forum there. The first one you get is so special that there is not possible to wright any message, even if you are registrated. The second is German. There are several German scribus-forums in german, maybe it is time to learn German :ugeek: , The third is a mailing-list. I don't like mailing-lists but maybe it is the only way to get help. It seems so that there is not any Scribus-forum on the Internet except the Germans  .

Google also coughed up this page: http://wiki.scribus.net/index.php/Pagination about pagination in Scribus. It mentions that on some keyboards, pressing Ctrl-# will not give the expected result. It also gives a work around to re-assign a different key combination. Could that be your issue?

I've got a mail so I could find the Scribus-forum on http://www.open-of-course.org/courses/m ... php?id=406, but it is unpossible to put in a message there. I asked members who where active there and I cuold find their e-mail. They could not help either. The last message is dated 9th november 2007. I don't know, why is it closed. I hope they open again because many user need it.

Don't forget Scribus reached the version 1.3.5RC3. Many errors are solved.

try Edit >Master Pages, then create a text frame where you want the page number to appear. Then, in edit mode, enter Alt+#. (US Keyboard users, are recommended to re-map this key to F7 for example.) Save the template and return to the main document
This appears in the scribus help

hope this helps

I cannot find any English Forum on Scribus also. Here is my questions on Scribus:

PDF1.3 (Acrobat 1.4)= PDF/x-1a:2001 compatible? Use Scribus to create a PDF file that is compatible with PDF/x-1a:2001 directly?

I know many people have use InDesiogn, CS and so on to create a book cover that is PDF/x-1a:2001 compatible, but I am more interested in Scribus since it is 100% FREE.

I have used Scribus created 5 book covers for books with b/w interior, and they have ALL been accepted by LSI without any problems. However, when I submit my book cover for a book with COLOR interior, it was rejected by LSI. The reason is the file is not PDF/x-1a:2001 compatible.

I always use the Scribus default PDF1.4 (Acrobat 1.5) format when I did the previous book covers, and I did not really paid attention to the PDF formats since they have ALL been accepted by LSU. Apparently, PDF1.4 (Acrobat 1.5) is NOT PDF/x-1a:2001 compatible, and LSI seems to be very strict about color interior books and the files have to be PDF/x-1a:2001 compatible

Does PDF1.3 (Acrobat 1.4)= PDF/x-1a:2001 compatible? Can anyone confirm this?

Please let me know. If not, I'll go ahead and submit one more time after I create the PDF file via the following steps. The worst thing that can happen is that I have to pay another re-submittal fees.

I think the following should work for using Scribus to create a PDF file that is compatible with PDF/x-1a:2001 directly:

File > Export > Save PDF, A pop-up window appears. Click the arrow next to Compatibility under Files Option, and select PDF1.3 (Acrobat 1.4), the then click Save.

This should create a PDF file that is compatible with PDF/x-1a:2001 and can be used for LSI.

As far as I know, there is no English language forum for Scribus. I finally had to search out software to use to access their IRC channel (which I think is freenode, although I was pretty much lost throughout the process). I found them not to be very friendly. Also, for some reason which I could not figure out, I was not allowed to see any discussion except for my own. And fyi -- contrary to most chatroom etiquette, where you're supposed to quietly watch the discussion and wait for a place to politely introduce yourself -- a)there was no discussion to watch, and b)introducing yourself is apparently the wrong thing to do. I was told to just state my problem. Then I was told that I should have looked up the help files, which I had done, of course, but didn't find what I needed. As is commonly the case with new users of any software, I did not know the right terminology to search for.

To be honest, I found my whole experience with Scribus disappointing. Maybe I'll check back in a few years, and it will be better documented, and hopefully have a bulletin board style forum.

There is an official one now: forums.scribus.net (opened in February '11 [1], [2]), and the user mailing list usually is very helpful, too: Scribus mailing lists.
