Work planner needed

Postby nesDk » Thu Apr 05, 2012 5:45 am

hi

this is where i need the help
do any of you know of a good work scheduling/planning tool?
preferable open source/free

this is why "and to point out what is meant in chance of something lost in translation"
my girlfriend started a new job for a couple of month ago, and that job have some strange meeting times.
lets call it an all hours daycare.
every 6th week they rotate who meets in, and when they meet in.
this calender/workPlanning is done manually in hmmm lets say excel.
and all personal are given a print-out of this 6 weeks plan.

this makes planning stuff with her kind of rough sometimes.
especially when i'm on the phone with my family and have to
respond on dates. might be my inner crack-junkie/zombie
with a nail in the head that just don't have a clue about my girls workhours.

and i would like to offer them some help using a online calendar/work planning tool.
so all us boy/girlfriends of the employees can share calenders via google calendar.
also the company have given their employees an apple iphone 4s as a workphone.
so theres no reason this planning is done in paperform in 2012

thanks

Try using Google Calendar. The place where your girlfriend works can create a Google G-Mail account. Then everyone can have access to it and its calendar.

It is not unusual to use Google Calendar for everyone to share a calendar or documents.

Please Note: This is the "Inkscape" forum to ask questions and get answers about Inkscape. If no one answers a question about other programs or software, we're not being rude or unkind: it is just not the point of this forum. We are just not experts in everything. :)

The number of page views is adversely affected by search engine spiders, spambots, and the like. I estimate that humans viewing the page must be no more than 20 or 25%.

I've been using the free version of this calendar for awhile, and like it ok. http://www.efficientcalendar.com/ I think the paid version offers the online synchronization that you're looking for. It's actively under development, and well supported, in my experience.

hey thanks.

it wasnt so much just a calender i seached for. it was a way for the administration at my girls workplace, to do a digitalt work calendar. and i would help them learn to use it.
i'm already using the big G's calendar and would like to combine mine and hers. (without getting all her co-workers times on my calendar.
my last secretary uses a paid program, and it was awesome. my old group used g-calendar and that worked awesome. isolating one member or one part of the process was so easy. i loved it. but making that calendar must have taken a long time to do manually.

and bobsongs. you did notice this was put under offtopic. meaning off the topics found elsewhere in a forum with focus on inkscape. and ofcause i have googled it and reseached. but on hand experience by others are prefered over google results.

and brynn ill look into that calendar, and see in the TOC if its okay to use it in the private sector

thanks

Yes, I did notice it was under "off topic" which is why I did not say: "Hey, you can't ask that here!" I said what I said because you were sad that your post had 38 views and no replies
"edit: 38 views no replies. me sad now "

This happens when we ask about other software. Sometimes the people in that forum just aren't experts. That's all. :)

sure

the me sad part, was just in regards to 38viewers didnt even troll comment or nothing. found that impressive for any forum.
the contextual link to the golf rule-set might be kind of hard to explain, but it's there. just takes a crazy mindset.

My office used to use the Outlook calendar that came with the MS software, it was pretty good. The problem is most places don't have it, they have Outlook Express, which isn't so good. Most people in an office don't want to have to use more than one calendar, and who wants to share your private time with co-workers, I sure wouldn't want that. In Outlook calendar (sorry, can't remember if that's the proper name of it, I'm not retired), there's a way to show the times of day you are available, busy, at work, etc. But not everyone wants to have to sit down everyday to ensure they key in the info, it's a pain, some of us prefer the old fashioned hand written calendars. It gets overwhelming to use multiple calendars. It's probably going to be a hard sell, especially if they are daycare workers, so they're chasing after kids, and not sitting at a computer all day long.
I'm not sure why you'd need to know about everyone else's hours of work anyway? Wouldn't you just need to know your girlfriend's and your own? Bottom line, not sure what your answer is, and that's probably why you don't have a lot of responses, we really don't know what advice to give you, sorry! good luck in finding a solution.

@flamingLady

Image
right now the starting point of this chain is made in hand, in a company that offers their employees iphones as workphones.
its not that theres a big problem or anything, i would just like to help them get into the year know to us as 2012.

ps its not really a daycare, just dont know the real name for such a place. :?

nesDk: maybe I should ask a few questions here. We seem to be making some offers as far as software goes, but nothing seems right.

Are you looking for something that will make a grid that can be printed and displayed for all the employees to see? In this case, I'd recommend something like LibreOffice Calc / OpenOffice Calc or Excel.

If you're looking for a shared Internet calendar, then Google Calendar is fastest and probably the best for the price.

Tell us what important feature is missing from the different suggestions we have made. This will help a great deal for the forum members when it comes to any more suggestions.

Thanks.

i think i've got some great inspiration and pointers, and just need to look further in to them.
thanks for that.

the key feature and what i'm seaching for is the [planning and convert to multiple ical/csv] tool
if that tool could make an ical/csv for each employee, so that each employee can share their and only their calendar as they chose.
Off topic:
that way we'll end up with my calendar, her calendar, and a family booking calendar (a combination of mine and hers, made in Google calendar)
it's only the @work calendar in my quick&dirty drawing
i know that it can be done, because that how my old setup worked. (but can get a hold on the person in charge of that system)
i've asked other places and one suggestion is google docs and seach for a template, but i dont know the right word for such a tool.

and yes some prefer to have a print-out, but that's obviously not the problem.
i'm also just trying to help
