Vista NO.
And I know.

Windows 7...it's better...I heard, and read.
I don't know.

Linux: Ubuntu, Ubuntu Studio (I use it on 2 computer), Fedora, Mint, Mandriva , try it on your old computer....you get a feeling of a new computer. I know. If you have TIME, want to LEARN, are INTERESTED , if not, DON'T.

Linux should know to the users, not the other way around.
Me my self never recommend Linux to people, if there are interested and want to fight the beast thats a another story. Because it's a fact, hardware comparability is a problem and that makes the marked small for a ordinary user. If it's a young person they probably want to play game, so Linux, no.

Most of the problem with hardware have a solution, some tar file, compiling and install, or hacking config files. IF YOU CAN FIND INFORMATION AND HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE TO USE IT, OR WANT TO LEARN.

I talking about “On Off” users that don't want to stand in a store and say -I use Ubuntu 9 or 10 something and I want to buy a scanner, and the salesman don't have a clue or are not interested. A user have the right to be ignorant about computers as a car driver is about the engine in there car.

The user of Win and MAC have a market that is adjusted for them. No synaptic, no compiling, no finding tar or deb file, just step by step CD for installing drivers in the same box as the new scanner.

And 9o% of the open source is for Win, and many for MAC to, and you can install them by double click on a exe file. When Open Office or Firefox have a new version you can install it, Microsoft don't do like Canonical and lock you to a version, you don't need to know PPA, compiling source code, to go around Canonical. Win, download and double click on a exe file.

For me with knowledge is Linux wonderful, but not for my neighbor.
Linux is simpler and have more freedom than Windows, thats true if you have the knowledge.

I love Linux, and I need to have Win for 3D Studio Max and Zbrush (I have license), but I don't love Win.

W7 goes without any questions. But mind that some notebooks are designed specially for vista and I wouldn't recommend you to buy such. There can appear some problems with W7 on such devices.
