Racaptcha on login?

Postby RobA » Sat Jan 08, 2011 4:26 am

Hi-

I now always seem to get the message:
You exceeded the maximum allowed number of login attempts. In addition to your username and password you now also have to solve the CAPTCHA below.

Does this mean someone is trying to access my account and failing? I have not logged in incorrectly, AFAIK.

I accidentally clicked on logout, and when I tried to login I got this message too, on the very first attempt.
I normally keep myself logged in, so this may have been brought up and answered a long time ago...
Your mind is what you think it is.

Confirmed - since a few days I sometimes get the additional captcha prompt, too. Seems like some external bot tries to guess passwords of known user IDs.

Wow! I know that best practice calls for totally random, longer, and unique passwords, just for this very reason. But this is the first time I've ever seen a real-life case.

I also know that periodically setting new passwords is another best practice. So maybe this would be a good time for us to set new passwords for our InkscapeForum accounts???

I believe this was happening to most users. My first suspicion is that it has been triggered by the upgrade.

It shouldn't continue to happen unless someone is trying to access your account. In which case, this is a good thing. The CAPTCHA is the only way to prevent repeated attempts on your account--aside from that, nothing else can be done.

Unfortunately, I don't have a log of login attempts, so I can know for sure. Let me know if the problem persists, just in case something else might be triggering it.

Changing your password is not so important, but making sure you have a strong password is.

it happened again when I tried to login today, so I suspect a bot is banging at my account.

I believe it is "banging" on all accounts!
I even got logged out yesterday, mysteriously, possibly related to this.
