"edited by" auto text?

Postby brynn » Sun Sep 09, 2012 4:24 pm

Hi microUgly and Friends,
Not so much feedback or suggestion, but I'm curious about the feature where you can optionally add the "edited by" info automatically. When I edit a message, if I don't put anything in the "Reason for editing this post" field, the "edited by ...." auto-text does not appear in the message after I submit it. That's fine with me, since my edits are fixing typos like 98% of the time. And I enter a reason for the rest. Just now, I happened to notice in this message (viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12734#p48041) where it shows that it was edited, but doesn't give a reason. So I'm curious how they apparently edited it, and got the "edited by" auto-text, without apparently entering any reason.

I might guess that being a moderator changes something about how my account works, except that I seem to recall the forum working this same way, for as long as I've been a member. Of course my memory hasn't been great lately....

Actually, now that I think about it (and after searching a couple of random edits) I've seen lots of edits without a reason given. Maybe that's some kind of moderator feature, having an option to give a reason?

Thanks :D

I think edits are only recorded if they occur after someone replies. So, you can edit the last post in a thread and no mention of the edits are made.

I tested by editing my reply to the above linked post. Another reply has happened since I posted it, so I thought it would be a good place to test. But you can see that the auto-text was not added.

You could test by editing your last post here, since now I've replied :D
