Hello,
I can't see your diagram, but I recomend, whatever the size or complexity, is to trace by hand (and mouse) your image on Inkscape.
- Just import your jpg file and put in a layer. The layer can be locked and/or changed their opacity.
- In other layer, begin to trace your drawing with the provided tools on inkscape. After the drawing done It will be asy to scale it, and export to PNG in order to be attached to WORD.

All of this could sound new for you, but at the end is easy. Please consult here:
the Inkscape Guide
If you have problems:
1.- Post a sample (or samples) of your file please.
2.- Please check here:

3.- If you manage to solve your problem, please post here your solution.

Haven't tried it, but you can save a vector image in inkscape as wmf -word should chew it as a clipart.
