Tablet pointer position wrong with multiple monitors

Postby jonathan.holvey » Sun Apr 21, 2013 6:53 am

Hi,

Firstly, I'm using Inscape 0.48.4 on 64-bit Windows 7.

I have recently bought myself a entry level Wacom Bamboo Pen graphics tablet that I want to use with Inkscape. I have had a few problems getting it working properly, the biggest of which means that I can only use one monitor with the tablet and Inkscape. I usually have three and when they're all enabled the position of the pointer and the position indicated by the rulers don't match. The lines drawn by the tablet end up in the correct place according to the rulers, however the pointer only moves across the centre third of the monitor that Inkscape is using. This makes it very difficult to position the start of the line, as the only reference I can use is at the edge of the window.

The tablet is configured to only control the primary monitor and it works correctly when using other programs that I've tested. When I disable all but one of the monitors the functionality is as expected. I've seen discussions about similar problems in the forums and on Launchpad, but they are from several years ago and none of them mention whether they are using multiple monitors.

Does anyone know a workaround or fix for this problem? If not I will create a bug report on Launchpad.

On a related note, another issue that I'm seeing is that the tablet will cause values of sliders and number selectors in the Inkscape UI to change by themselves, without being clicked. Also, the pen buttons seem to be assigned to right click and pan, despite them being disabled in the Wacom configuration software and the rest of the OS. Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Jon

I use a bamboo tablet with inkscape (32 bit windows vista and 0.48.1 inkscape) all of the time. However, I tried to get the tablet to work on a two-monitor set-up, but gave up and returned to using the tablet on a single monitor computer. I did not get far enough to see your problems in Inkscape - even in Windows Desktop I could not get the tablet to track over the whole screen. I did not have the set-up program installed on the two-monitor computer (just the drivers), so that may have been part of the problem.

The bamboo tablet does work extremely well with Inkscape, and if you manage to fix the problems could you please post here, as I'd love to be able to use the tablet on a two-monitor computer!

You may have read some of my problems getting Inkscape to recognise that there was a tablet attached at all. Following the solution outlined in the previous thread I have had no problems since then! The tablet has been fantastic. I would not be able to use Inkscape for extended periods without a tablet (so many mouse clicks were giving me aching fingers), and it is really hard to "draw" with a mouse.

Good luck!
