Number of views, coloumn

Postby Grobe » Wed Mar 07, 2012 9:45 am

Hi.

Short question: Can a single user contribute the count the number of views for a topic with more than 1?

So when I look at topic overview and see one topic have houndred views - does that means that houndred individual forum users has read that tread, or may some few users read that thread several times (wich also counts)?

Thanks :)

Yes :D
As far as I understand, it counts every page view, including repeated views by anyone. You can test yourself, by noting the number of views, then open the topic, then go back to index and refresh the page. There should be one more view reported.

The reason the views may seem exaggerated, is that the search engine spiders and spambots get counted as well. If you look at the bottom of the forum index page, you can see the visits in the last....I think it's 5 minutes or maybe 15, I don't remember. There you can see not only members, but some search engines. I think a lot of spambots are not reported. (It may take some special forum mod to detect and report them, I'm not sure.) But in fact, these spiders and bots account for many more page views than people!

(And fyi for new internet users, this is why it's recommended not to put your email address, or any personally identifying info, into your messages. Once a spambot gets hold of it, your inbox will quickly fill up with spam!)

Thanks Brynn :D

That sort of makes sense for some long discussion here on this forum.
