My cool mouse yearns to be cool

Postby SureWhyNot » Mon Jul 14, 2008 6:35 am

My mouse has some extra buttons on it. I'd like to be able to bind some of the existing shortcuts (drag panning) to those buttons (or even alternative keyboard buttons.) Is there any way to do this?

I expect if you could, the configuration for it would be in /share/keys/default.xml, but I had a quick look but couldn't see any mouse specific configuration. I may not have looked hard enough.

You can already pan the canvas hold holding the middle mouse button.

I know, but doing it with a side button would feel more natural, I think.

Is it possible to configure the side button to be middle click? Or can you make it be application specific?

you need to look at the mouuse software rather than inkscape. I know the microsoft stuff for instance lets you do app specific mapping.

You can also use AutoHotkey to remap the buttons for specific applications. It's quite flexible and powerful.

What does this mean? I know it translates to "GUI please thanks" but I don't really understand how this relates to the previous replies?

I want to use my mouse, not my keyboard ;)

I'm saying that I don't like the app you suggested because it uses scripts and typed comands and stuff I don't like to figure out. :(

Looks like you're fat out of luck then :D But seriosly, AutoHotkey isn't the only software in the world that help you get the function you want, if you really want it.
