Title: forum malfunctioning?
Post by: brynn on November 27, 2017, 12:59:32 PM
Does anyone elses experience the forum malfunctioning?  I just got a new Firefox upgrade today, so the browser isn't working properly.  But I can't seem to open the chatbox, and the smileys are missing from the full editor.

Anyone else?  Or just me?

!#@#^**!Y#%$#*#(*#@&@%^!  :ad: It was the freaking browser upgrade, it reverted everything to defaults, so I didn't have any scripts running!!

Probably my last day using Firefox!

Smileys and chatbox seems to be working on my end.  Just updated to Firefox 57.0 this morning (as per update notification from Ubuntu Software Updater).  I don't have a lot of extensions running though.  And for those old extensions that are no longer compatible with the newer version, they're automatically disabled.

Yes, that's what I learned.  How can they disable things without providing replacements?  And the one extension they upgraded (NoScripts), they didn't have it pick up the current settings.  Everything just reverted to defaults.  That's why I didn't have the scripts which run the chatbox and smileys.  To me, this is all irresponsible, and not being sensitive to their users needs.  I've had this complaint with them, ever since I switched from IE.  Almost every single upgrade, I have to stop what I'm doing, and reset this and that.  I had already disabled upgrades, so I wouldn't be bothered.  But then yesterday, I got a message saying Ff was dangerously out of date.  And that's what forced the upgrade on me.

So for me, it's either revert to the older version, or just find a new browser.  Maybe I won't find a better one....  But my needs are pretty simple, for browsers.  I don't need cutting edge features (except for security).

From what I've heard, Opera is the best at supporting SVG.  And it brags some other nice features.  I just downloaded, so I'll install and give it a test drive.  And there also is a Linux version, so when I switch to Linux, at least I won't have to learn a new browser.

Also like how Sea Monkey sounds.  Might give it a test drive too.  Last option Pale Moon.

Well, NoScript is an open source project, just like Inkscape. In fact, most extensions are.

Yes...  Why would being open source prevent developers from having the new version pick up the settings from the old version, when they install it (by default, without asking)?

Most Firefox extensions/addons, when I've upgraded them, don't revert to defaults.  They pick up the settings from the old version, so there's as little disruption as possible from the update/upgrade.

The developer was under a lot of strain, from all those requests of people asking to get it fixed quickly. He pushed out something that worked, as quickly as possible. You can read his blog here: https://hackademix.net/ - these people, they are just people. Just like you :)
