Title: update on the new "official" forum
Post by: brynn on May 20, 2018, 01:13:14 PM
Hi Friends,
We posted in InkscapeForum.com a week or so ago, but I just realized, I forgot to post about it here.  The Inkscape project has recently acquired its own server/servers, which paves the way to finally have an official forum for Inkscape support.

The owner/admin of InkscapeForum had offered the that forum to be used as a base for creating a community-managed forum, a couple of years ago.  However, we did not have any server space at that time.  So now that we do, we've tried to contact him again, with the goal of creating the new forum, using the old forum as a base.  Currently, we're "in a holding pattern" waiting for a response.

If a lot of time goes by with no response, we may have to go to "Plan B".  Plan B hasn't been finalized yet, but it would probably look like starting the new forum without using the old one as a base.  And then putting the old forum in read-only mode, so that all the info it contains is not lost.  Or possibly the Wayback Machine could be used for that (although it probably would not be completely up to date).

However, as I said, Plan B has not been finalized yet.  We're still hoping to get the InkscapeForum data and files, since that's the best possibly outcome.
