I'm a beginner at Inkscape and I've just made my first banner.

It looks good to me!

I'm curious what it will be used with.  Usually I see banners which are symmetrical.  So I'm just curious if there will be some kind of icon or logo to go with it, which would explain why it's wavy.

Or were you just trying out new skills?

It looks great to me! One thing I would suggest is that you continue that darker border of the main section of the banner onto the "tails" so it looks a little more continuous...
