Title: Weird issue with pen/cil tool ellipse shape
Post by: philis401 on June 21, 2018, 10:35:29 PM
I've done some searching but could not find a problem similar to my issue.  When I use the  :pfh: :pen: tools with the ellipse shape (dunno if its same in tri in/out) the shape comes out weird as shown in the video below:

I never had this problem before on my previous laptop, only on this new laptop I bought recently. It has the usual intel integreted display adapter as well as nvidia 1080 ti and no matter which one I run inkscape with I have this issue.  I am currently using win 10 home and all my drivers should be updated.  I didn't do alot with inkscape preferences, it should be the same way I used on my previous laptop.

Welcome to the forum!

The ellipse shape uses the Pattern Along Path LPE, and unfortunately, the LPEs don't work very well on closed paths, with corner/cusp nodes.

You could try making the nodes all smooth.  Or you could try not closing the path completely.  Or you could try using the PAP extension.  It's not nearly as convenient, but I don't think it has this problem.

It seems like I've heard that this either already has been fixed or will be fixed by the next major version.  But don't count on my memory, haha!  I'm sure this must be reported as a bug already, so you could search Launchpad, to find out the progress.  https://launchpad.net/inkscape
