Title: Trouble Importing SVG for CYMK - Images showing up everywhere
Post by: Kriske on July 20, 2019, 05:38:29 AM
Hello, as the title suggests I'm having difficulty with converting Inkscape to Scribus.
I've been asked to create some flyers/posts for social media, howver I've now been told some needed to be printed and I tried following this tutorial:
https://www.klaasnotfound.com/2016/06/05/creating-cmyk-prepress-pdfs-with-inkscape-and-scribus/
however, I've been hit with this when opening the SVG file.

Edit - Scribus 1.4.7
Scribus after import - 2 file
The file in Inkscape - 1 file

Which operating system do you use?  There is an Inkscape extension that can create PDFs with CMYK, but it doesn't work with all os.  If you're on Linux you could try this:  https://inkscape.org/~wout/%E2%98%85output-pro

If you can't use that, then someone else will have to answer, because I've never done this before.

Was the SVG file made with Inkscape?  Can you share the SVG file, so we can test?

Hi, I'm on Windows 7 right now.

Yes, I created it with Inkscape.

I don't really understand the order in which you do things.

Are you:

1. Finishing the drawing in Inkscape
2. Then importing the SVG file in Scribus, and exporting it with the correct color management settings?

In which program do you experience the displacement of objects?

I created the flyer in Inkscape, saved it as an SVG. Opened Scribus, and imported it into Scribus. The displacement occurs in Scribus.

Fyi, I installed Scribus so I could test.  And I have the same experience, opening the SVG file in Scribus.

At first I thought maybe it didn't matter that the image was scrambled, since in Scribus, all you do is change the color settings.  But I followed the tutorial you referenced all the way through, and the image does not come back together in the end (as I thought it might).

My best guess is that it's the incompatible features which Scribus alerts on, which is causing the problem.  And I might also guess that filters are at least part of the problem.

But I'm really guessing.

Your file is inadequate for use with Scribus. Scribus does not support any filters, for example, and it also has difficulties with masks/clips.
However, even Inkscape chokes on trying to export to pdf.

I would assemble the contents in Scribus, and avoid using any clips.

I see. Alright, I shall use illustrator for this at the moment then.

Thank you.
