Title: Nodes are not presenting / custom markers not added to library
Post by: mwoosley on July 28, 2016, 06:55:53 AM
I am having an issue with a tutorial where I can't get a circle to give me some node handles for turning the circle into a dashed line versus a solid line.

a link to the tutorial - http://goinkscape.com/how-to-design-a-circular-logo-in-inkscape/

credit the tutorial author - Aaron Nieze

for a video tutorial, please tell us the time step (hold mouse over progress bar to show the time) - 2:50

and finally, please tell us what happens on your canvas that is different from the tutorial....or in other words, what goes wrong the more detail, the better - When I select my circle to set the 4 nodes, as in the tutorial, the nodes do not appear.  I previously selected the 'Path', 'Object to Path', created the marker for the library, etc.  I can see in the tutorial where the selection indicators change to node indicators but mine do not change.  I have repeated the tutorial over and over but in all fairness I suppose I could have missed something... but for the life of me, I cannot figure out what it would be.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Mike

Hhmm, did you switch to the  Node tool?  It's this button, the 2nd from the top in the toolbar on the left   :node:  You can only see the nodes when the object is selected and that tool is enabled.

Yeah, he goes through that really fast.  If you blink, you miss it!

Or of course there's a key shortcut to enable that tool, if you'd rather use keys instead of menus and buttons.  It's just the "n" key.

Oh, I missed the part about the marker.  There's a bug where new markers don't show up until you save and close the file, and then re-open it.  Then you'll see the new marker.  But don't forget to save  :)

If you don't find it after re-opening, we'll have to look further.  I thought that bug would have been fixed by now, but maybe not.

Edit
If you have clicked Object to Marker a few times,  you might actually find a few new custom markers!
