Title: Opening .ai Files
Post by: ScrotieFlapWack on February 12, 2017, 03:44:50 PM
Hi Guys,

I am opening some .ai files in Inkscape and I was wondering, is there a way to import a .ai file with all pages rather than picking a page?

I have a .ai file which has multiple artboards, I'm assuming the artboards of the .ai file are what Inkscape refers to as pages?

Inkscape doesn't have native multple page support (yet).  There's an extension which uses PDF to keep multiple pages together.  But unfortunately, it's only one page at a time for Inkscape, at this time.

Well, actually I'm not sure what an artboard is.  But it sounds like different canvases.  You could probably keep each "artboard" image as a layer in Inkscape, and just unhide whichever one you need at the moment.  But it still means opening one at a time to copy it to a new layer.

Multiple page support is a llooong standing, and much requested feature.  I'm not sure if it's specifically part of the Roadmap, but I think it ought to be.

This is not kept up to date, and maybe overly optimistic.  But at least you can see what's on developers' minds.  http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Roadmap

Sorry, I wish I had a better answer for this.
