Title: Having trouble blurring object within an object

I'm attempting to make the switch from Graphic to Inkscape and I am trying to figure out how to place (clip/mask?) a shape by another and then take the inside shape and blur it (see attachment for the how it is done in Graphic). I have read up on Clipping and Masking in Inkscape but still can't get it right. Can someone please explain how to do this in Inkscape? In Graphic, I just cut (Cmd+X) the rectangle, select the circle, and use the "Paste Inside" command. Then when I blur the rectangle, the blur stays with the circle (and is masked). I just can't see to figure this one out in Inkscape.

Welcome aboard!

The process goes similarly:
Draw the rectangle, add some blur to it, then group it after (Ctrl+G).
After that, draw the citcle atop the group and use it to clip the group.

On a side note for that image a circle filled with a linear gradient would work better (blurring is resource heavy and doesn't transfer well to pdf-s).
