Hello everyone,

I had been using Inkscape 0.48 for quite some time and recently decided to install the latest version. I put 0.91 today (64-bit) and tried to print something I had created. What came out from the printer had the whole background black. After some tests I found out that the problem was due to some boxes that had 80% opacity. When moved to 100% everything would print out fine (with the background white as normal). If they had even a slight transparency the background becomes black when printed.

I even tried with a brand new document and got the same result so it's not something to do with the specific file. I created a new document, drew a red square with 100% opacity and printed it. Everything fine. Changed the opacity to 80% and printed it again - the background was black.

I also noticed that the problem doesn't lie on the printer. I tried with a virtual printer as well and got the exact same results.

Does this happen to anyone else or only to me? I thought of posting here first to ask before submitting it as a bug just in case it is due to some other reason.

Thank you all in advance.

Welcome Sneaker!

I haven't heard of that problem, but I found this in the bug tracker:  https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1418865.  It doesn't sound like exactly the same thing to me.  This report seems to apply to 100% transparent objects, not partially transparent.  But it still could be related (for all I know).

And there's also this report:  https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1425393.  You didn't say which settings you used.

You could post a comment to whichever one of those bugs seems to be the most appropriate.  And if the developers think it should be a separate report, they'll ask you to make one.  Or if you make a new report, and it turns out to be related to other bugs, they'll mark it to indicate that.

Or you're welcome to search the bug tracker yourself, as well.  You may be able to find other similar bugs.  Tbh, I've had an extremely poor experience with the Launchpad search.  I've searched for bug reports that I know exist, with words which appear in the title of the report, and the LP search doesn't find them!  So if you know how to search without using LP, you might find other reports.  (I can never remember how  :@@:)

Thank you for your reply.

From the links you posted (following some other links posted there) I found out this bug which is probably the one closest to mine: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1418865

I made a comment there and if needed I will post it as a new bug. However, there seem to be a lot of black-page related issues so my guess is they are probably all connected somehow.

Once again, thanks for the info!

You're welcome.  I'm glad at least you can still use 0.48.5 when you need to print something  :D
