When I iconize dialogs in the dialog bar, they appear with their text written vertically, which makes them completely useless (see attachment - text in french, sorry).
I saw on some snapshots, probably under Windows while I'm under OS X, they can be drawn without text, just as simple icons, which make sense as it is much more usable.
My question : is their a way to discard dialog icons text under OS X ? I didn't find any clue about it in the Inkscape manual (even for Windows...), neither any option in the Windows preference dialog ? Should I need to tweak some parameter in the Inkscape config file(s) ?
Thanks for any idea.

Welcome to the forum!
I think it's the same for all the operating systems. That's exactly what I see on Windows, that you showed in your screenshot.
But I do think it would be a good feature request....might even make it myself, if you don't want to. Because all the dialogs have an icon. It would make great sense to use just the icon, instead of the long text!
Here's where you can make a feature request (just like making a bug report) https://launchpad.net/inkscape
If you make the request/report, please post a link here, so others can follow the progress. Or else if you don't want to do it, let me know, and I'll do it.

Too bad...
But I'm pretty sure I saw a screenshot somewhere where those *** unneeded dialog texts did not appear... but maybe I had a dream ;-)
Anyway, thanks, Brynn

I guess it's possible you saw a screenshot of a deveopment version, which I've never seen. Maybe this feature is coming soon, I don't know. I'll see if I can find anything in the bug tracker. If not, I'll make the request :)

Oh wait! I'm wrong!!
Good news! Inkscape Preferences > Interface > Dockbar Style
There you can choose icons only! (be sure to restart Inkscape, to take effect)
(There's also "Switcher Style". I'm not sure what a switcher is.... I'll have to play with it a bit.)

Yahoo ! It works for me too!
I'm so happy!!!!!
Unfortunately, I've been buzzing the Inkscape bug desk, making the request...

If you actually made the request....I'm not sure if you're allowed to delete your own reports....maybe not. But you can just post another comment to it, and say nevermind, please delete.
Sorry for giving the wrong info at first. Inkscape has been changing fast over the last couple of years, and I'm struggling to keep up with it. Like I said, I have no clue what a switcher is!

I think that's the term for buttons in the dialog list you get at the bottom of the dock bar sometimes. I've never found out how Inkscape decides how to show those other minimized dialogs...
