Title: Virus with Inkscape Install
Post by: Smaz on March 14, 2017, 10:08:24 AM
Hello I'm a new user. I tried to install Inkscape today on my Windows computer & couldn't due to a Trojan virus that my computer was able to quarantine with the install. Can anyone please advise?

Hi,

Some questions first:
1.) which installation method did you choose?
2.) Where did you get the installation files from?
3.) What operating system are you trying to install Inkscape on?
4.)What is the name of the antivirus software you're using?

We've seen several reports of a false positive on Inkscape, by a security program called 360 Total Security.  Apparently still not fixed, months after first discovered.  (Although to be fair, we don't really know if anyone has reported this to 350 TS.  I was thinking of reporting it to them, until someone told us that's the antivirus which is forced upon the vast majority of  people using Windows systems in China.)

So I decided to keep hands off, and instead suggest users find a better antivirus or security suite.

Here's our test from that first report, showing that Inkscape.org is a clean download site:  https://www.virustotal.com/de/url/1d612b74f2d0a3281ab4500c5d330a37144f612a15e1ee9a5435136f2bbbefd2/analysis/

If you're using a different AV or Security Suite, please tell us which one.  Or if you downloaded from somewhere besides the Inkscape website, I would suggest to delete what you downloaded, run all your security scans to get rid of any bad stuff, and then download a clean copy from inkscape.org.
