Title: Messages approved
Post by: spaventapasseri on August 03, 2013, 10:17:07 PM
Hello Brynn,
everytime I`m trying to post a message I have a note "this post will not display until it`s been approved by a moderator".
I think is a good idea for a while because in the future with more users I don` t think is possible stay behind all messages. :hmm:

At IF, it's only the 1st two messages of new members, which have to be approved.  But it's often hard (for me) to determine if someone was planning to post spam, with just 2 messages to judge by.  Those human spammers can be VERY clever!  So I've set it at 5 here.  So after your 1st 5 messages are approved, then they will no longer have to be approved, and your messages will post immediately.

However, if this forum's security is as good as advertised, I might be able to drop approvals completely, and let even new members' messages post immediately.

I was just looking to see if there might be some way I can let people that I already know bypass that, but I don't think there is.  At least not that I've found yet.  While I've had a couple of months to study the forum's controls (and you know how complex SMF can be) as a first time admin, there will still probably be a learning process  :daz:

Five approvals may be a tad too strict, IMHO.  You got a point though, regarding those clever "human" spammers that I've noticed in other forums (not only at the IF, but at the Mint forum as well).  I'm not familiar with the internal workings of this forum's software, but surely there must be a way to make exceptions to new members that you're already familiar with?

If not, then perhaps lowering the minimum post requirement down a few notches may suffice.  I can imagine not only the potential irritation to new members if their messages need five approvals (especially those "need-help-ASAP" types) but also the amount of workload a moderator has to perform having to judge and approve/deny these messages.

We'll see how it goes.  But I'll dig a little more for a way to exempt members from the approval.

Ok, good news --  I have a plan!

Now you are both in the non-post count group IC Mentor, and should be exempt from any further approval of messages.

Edit
But let me know if you'd rather not be in that group.  It doesn't carry any responsibility, other than to maintain the same integrity that I already know you to posses  :D

Edit
And a few more permissions are available to you now (shoutbox, polls, can put a link in profile, and a couple others).
