Title: Inkscape in Peppermint 8 and icon set - looks very different [solved]
Post by: Grobe on July 26, 2017, 12:05:20 PM
Hi all.

Long time noe se, have being busy trying learning Linux and testing different distros  :2tu:

Anyway, I came across one Distro I just had to get on an old laptop, namely Peppermint 8 (based on Linux Mint / Ubuntu). With the default black theme.

So I installed Inkscape from the Software manager. The thing here is that Inkscape running in Peppermint OS (PM for short hereafter) looks very different compared to Windows, Linux Mint and Xubuntu - in those distros Inkscape looks very similar to the Windows version.

So I started a topic on the PM forum site where I stated that I'm unhappy with the look'n feel of Inkscape running in PM compared to other OS.
btw, the thread location: https://forum.peppermintos.com/index.php/topic,5865.msg59162.html#msg59162

Anyway, it's stated from one of the guy running that forum that Inkscape must use icon set that is built into the OS. Can that be true  :?:

Here is screenshot on how Inkscape appears on PM

Hi Grobe  :)

I'll be making the oddysey into Linux distros myself, pretty soon.

I never have been entirely clear about Inkscape icons.  I know for sure that at least some of them come from GTK - at least in Windows, but I think for all systems.  But I think some of them come from the system where Inkscape is installed.

Like for example, many of the icons in your screenshot look just like what I see in Windows.  But then others are different from what I usually see in Windows.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was an Inkscape wiki document explaining about GTK and/or icons.  So you could try searching there.  I know there's been a prominent GTK icon issue for the last few Inkscape versions.  I can never remember exactly what the problem is.....stretching my brain here, but I think it's a temporary incomatibility.  Anyway, the bug report should probably contain some helpful facts.  Actually, there are over 100 reports if you search "gtk" on Launchpad.  But here's the report I made a couple of years ago:  https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1372150.

Hi.

Workaround is provided in the Peppermint forum: Change icon theme in Peppermint OS did make the appearance of Inkscape look as in other OS.
