Hi I'm BeCca and I just downloaded an older version of inkscape 48.2 ~ I tried to DL the newest version but it wouldn't open I'm running windows 8.1 64 bit. I have been trying to figure this out and am stuck I basically want to type out words and phrases and add glyphs ~ save the SVG on my desktop. Can anyone please explain to me how to access the glyphs and use them ? I would really appreciate it ~ Thank you in advance =)

Welcome to Inkscape Community!

Hhmm....well first, a question.  Sometimes people use different terminology, so I want to be sure what you mean by "glyphs".

Also, I would suggest getting the current version of Inkscape working for you.  The reason is, (if indeed you need it) I'm not sure if Inkscape's Glyphs feature was working in the version you installed.  When you open the Glyphs dialog (Text menu > Glyphs), do you see options for Font Family, Style, Script, Font size, Range?  I don't remember exactly when it became fully functional, but I do remember a time when there was a dialog with nothing in it.

I'm not sure what happened when you tried to install 0.91, but it would be worth trying again, because 0.91 has some really nice improvements over 0.48.x.  If you do try to install 0.91 again, let us know what problems you run into, and we can help  :D

I see you're using Windows, and I haven't heard of this kind of problem with Windows.  Did you download and install one of the version in  the red rectangle, in the attached screenshot?  Which one?

If you went via that big windows icon near the top of the page, and then clicked on the big inkscape icon, I think I see what your problem is.  Apparently that downloads an MSI version or installer (I'm not sure what the correct word is there).  I don't actually know what MSI is or does.  Therefore, I avoid it, and only use the 2 I know about, which are EXE and 7Z (a zip file).

So if you downloaded that MSI file, I couldn't tell you how it's supposed to be used....although if you installed it "over top" of an older version, your problem might be a bug in the MSI that apparently allows 2 Inkscape installations in the same directory.

I'm going to make a suggestion to the Inkscape website team, that that big Inkscape download icon should automatically download the EXE version, since that's more like the standard on the internet.

If that's not what you did, well then nevermind.  Tell me what you did download, and we'll go from there  :D
