Title: double-checking GMT
Post by: brynn on August 28, 2017, 09:20:30 AM
Hi Friends,
I'll be doing some routine maintenance on the server this week.  I'll do it around midnight my time, which appears to be when we typically have the lowest traffic.  I just want to double-check I've calculated the GMT correctly.

So the time stamp for this message should be approx 16:20 GMT (4:20 pm GMT), which is 10:20 am for me, in Mountain Daylight Time.  There might be an hour's difference somewhere, considering "Daylight Savings Time" (which makes us an hour ahead).

I don't need to be that specific with the time of the maintenance.  If it's really 11 pm or 1 am, isn't that important.  Just so you have a general idea when it's expected.  For approx 20 minutes, a lot of people will never know it happened.  But I hate surprises, so I try to avoid surprising you :)

And the expected time for the maintenance will be approx 6:00 GMT (6:00 am GMT).  That works out to midnight for me, right?

Does it look to you like I calculated correctly?

Hi.

Seems so.
Whenever in doubt, this page can show the current time:

Hah, yes, that's the site I used.  But I'm famous for adding when I should have subtracted and vice versa.

Thanks for your help :)
