Hi All,
I want to create an outer boundary on this map image to show areas that have been missed out. I want to follow the outline as neatly as possible but in a different colour.
I've tried different parts of inkscape but cant seem to get this right I just end out with a terrible looking raggedy edges.
Any help greatly appreciated :)

I would suggest using the Pen/Bezier tool. A long time ago, I wrote a Lllooong tutorial, generally about "how to draw a line" and covering all of Inkscape's path tools (well most, I guess). Unfortunately it is heavy with text. For just doing what the tutorial guides you to do, it probably is only a 5 minute tutorial. It's just that it takes a lot of words to get there :()
However, if you only focus on the Pen/Bezier tool section, it might not be too bad. (I guess now that I've started learning to make videos, I should make a video for it.) https://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php?action=articles;sa=view;article=7
I have an idea for auto-tracing your JPG. I'm not sure if it will work. But I'll do some quick tests and let you know.

Hi jim, i am new to the forum so please forgive me if i miss understood your final outcome, but attached is something 'similar' to what i think you are wanting to achieve (please see attached).
You want the smaller boundary to fit snug inside the larger with no overlaps what so ever. Is this correct?
