Changing drives from local C: to other mapped drives or UNC

How do I change drives from the local installation drive e.g. C: to any other drive either local or on a LAN via a mapped letter or by UNC?

I am a new user and I would think this is rather basic question. I have scanned the Help pages and scanned the Forum but have been able to find out any information or instructions.

Assuming you're using Windows, when you start the installer ("wizard") on the 2nd or 3rd or 4th step, it shows you where it wants to install Inkscape.  If you have any other versions of Inkscape installed, there's a bug which causes it to want to install in the wrong place.   But for that reason, or any other reason, you can change the place where it wants to install.

I'm not sure about a LAN.  At least I know what it is, haha.  Local Area Network, right?  Since Inkscape does not use the internet, it doesn't care what kind of network you use.  The Inkscape installers are not network based.  They are offline installers.

I'll have to look up UNC....  Aah, Uniform Naming Convention?  Oh I see, that's the file path, right?

As I said, the Inkscape Windows installer, at least the EXE installer, gives you the option to change the location where it's installed.  You can either type the file path in the field yourself, or you can click the Browse button, and navigate to the location, to tell Inkscape where to put it.  I've never used the MSI installer, so I'm not sure about that one.

However, having said all that, I think the best advice (from programmers and developers) would be to put it either in Program Files (for 64-bit version) or Program Files (x86) for 32-bit version.  Those directories are made specifically to hold program installations.  Other directories, such as Pictures or Documents or Videos libraries, have the necessary atatributes and options to be libraries, and not to hold program installations.

Once you've downloaded the version you want, double-click on the file to start the installation, and it will walk you through, one step at a time.

Unless you're talking about compiling?  That's a whole other story, and I don't think we have a single tutorial for that.  It would be an adventure for me, to try to compile.  But I could provide a few wiki articles that might help.
