Title: Massive spaces and gaps between letters for font Eurostile
Post by: THX1138 on April 25, 2019, 10:29:42 AM
I am trying to use a font called Eurostile. For some reason, when text is changed to Eurostile, all these random gaps appear including massive spaces and gaps between letters. Text displays fine using this font in Microsoft Word 2016. Any idea what's wrong? I'm using Inkscape 0.92.4 and linked to my files below. Thanks.

It's not an Inkscape issue. The font you use contains weird kerning metrics, this can be seen even in Dropbox's preview.

Here's the same font with kerning info removed. It may be perceived slightly off, but at least it doesn't have those gaps.

It looks like a fairly common type of font.  You could probably find another font to do this project, which looks just like it.

Inkscape is known to be picky about fonts.  Other programs seem to be able to display fonts that are not made properly.  But Inkscape needs them to be made properly.
