Hello!
i'm new here and i need some help. I use Inkscape to design then export DXF files for laser cutting. All worked fine until I updated my Mac today to the latest OS, Sierra and now I get the following message when I save files as .dxf
"python: VERSIONER_PYTHON_VERSION environment variable error (ignored)
The fantastic lxml wrapper for libxml2 is required by inkex.py and therefore this extension. Please download and install the latest version from http://cheeseshop.python.org/pypi/lxml/, or install it through your package manager by a command like: sudo apt-get install python-lxml"
I've been to the cheeseshop link but i'm not sure if I downloaded the correct file, the top link was one for Mac but now its been downloaded I can't open it so i'm stuck!
please help!

Welcome Sarah!
Which version of Inkscape was installed, when you upgraded your operating system?
When I open that link, it shows me 3 options (4.0.0, 4.1.0 and 4.1.1) which I'm guessing are options for Windows, since they don't have any clues related to operating system.
But I wonder if different Inkscape versions might need different versions of this python app?? Which versions does it offer you, and which one did you choose?
Edit - I'm not a Mac user, so I'm not very well informed about this. So just to clarify, I can only guess. Hopefully others will post soon.

it says I have Inkscape 0.48.5
I clicked on the top one 4.1.1 then on the top link after that which is called "lxml-4.1.1-cp27-cp27m-macosx_10_6_intel.macosx_10_9_intel.macosx_10_9_x86_64.macosx_10_10_intel.macosx_10_10_x86_64.whl (md5) "

I'd suggest uninstalling 0.48.5 and installing the current version, which is 0.92.2. It should include the lxml stuff already. Take care to follow the setup instructions on the download page at https://inkscape.org/en/release/0.92.2/mac-os-x/107/dmg/dl/
