Hi, I'm trying to import tif files to work on but they just don't appear. jpegs of the same images work fine by the same method. If it's any help, an example is 300dpi, 2046 x 1635 pixels Bit depth 40 (not a clue what that means) and about 16MB. Hope someone can help.

Hi.
40 bit depth means it probably has four channels, likely having a cmyk colour profile.
colordepth (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_depth)
Would suggest converting the tiff file to an rgb png image before importing.
Imagemagick (https://www.imagemagick.org/script/index.php) may help you with that.

Welcome to the forum!
Also, depending on your system, 16 mb might take a little longer to open. Give it a few minutes, before you give up.
