Title: How to change stroke width of circle without changing diameter
Post by: gulliverian on October 28, 2018, 06:22:33 PM
I'm trying to change the stroke width of a circle, but that changes diameter.

What I'd like to do is change the stroke width withoug changing the outside diameter.

Alternatively, if there is a way to change the outside diameter that might work well.

Thanks,  Rob

Welcome to the forum!

I'm not positive what you're asking, but let's start with this.  Go to Edit menu > Preferences > Tools, and tick Geometric Bounding Box.  That will make it so that the stroke width is not included in the measurements of the object.

If that doesn't do what you want, please let us know some more info about what you want.

This is not possible. The stroke will always be adding to the object's size, because if it wouldn't, that would actually mean that the object itself is shrunk. A stroke is put on the path that builds the object, and it extends to both sides of the path.

You can, however, copy the object to the clipboard before you make the stroke wider, and then use 'Edit > Paste size > Paste size' for quick resizing back to the previous size.

Or you could use two circles, and make the inner circle smaller, to get a wider 'rim'.
