Title: Please HELP unable to get svg files to union to text
Post by: tdarn1 on April 01, 2018, 08:16:08 PM
Please Help !!

We downloaded several  Split Monogram Svg files , they opened just fine in inkscape , we entered text into empty block , selected both went to path then union but the files will NOT union. i know you can group them but I need them to union to use on a plasma cutter.
seems simple but I am at wits end after hrs of trying , seems to have something to do with the downloaded monogram file. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks in advance!

Maybe you need to ungroup? Or maybe you have a raster image, and not a path that can be unioned? Check the status line for info about why an action does not succeed. If this doesn't help, feel free to share the actual SVG file for us to have a look.

Welcome to the forum!

Had to look up "split monogram".  If you select only the text (which you entered using Inkscape), it should Union just fine.  If you're trying to select the entire split monogram, who knows how that file was made?

As Moini indicated, they may be grouped.  Since they are SVG files, I would not expect the split monogram to be a raster image.  But theoretically, could be.  Or the vector paths could be on top of raster images (so that if you used Select All, the raster would have been selected).

Echoing  Moini re status bar or showing us the SVG file.
