Title: Exporting files for Adobe Illustrator
Post by: mariana.dias on July 10, 2017, 09:22:56 PM
Dear community,

I hope this finds you well.

I've been having some problems when exporting files for Adobe Illustrator and I was hoping that perhaps you could give me hand. I have to send one of my works to print, but for that I have to convert the files into .eps, .ai, plain .svg, or .psd, which I had no problem in doing, or so I thought. According to the printers, every time they try to import one of my files into AI, they do open, but with some missing parts.

I've already checked the links below, but for no avail.
1) http://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php?topic=382.0 (Proposed link in this post seems to be broken)
2) http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Inkscape_for_Adobe_Illustrator_users

I would be very grateful if you guys could please help me out on that :).

Kind regards

Welcome to the forum!

I'm not sure which link you found was broken, but I think was this one.  Well, this is the correct link, and I edited the other message too.

https://inkscape.org/en/learn/faq/#inkscape-edits-svg-file-which-was-originally-created-adobe-illustrator-are-lost-when-importing-back-ai

Although it probably won't help you much.

We need to find out which parts are missing, when they open in AI.  It's probably a bug which is causing this.  But if we can figure out which bug, we might be able to find a workaround or something.

Do your printers tell you which parts are missing?

Hi Brynn,

Thank you very much for your prompt feedback, I really appreciate it.

I am just going through the link you sent me, I'll try it out and let you know. Meanwhile, I've sent an email to the printers asking for more details about the issues found within the files, I only know that for each extension there's a bit of the file missing. They even tried to combined the files into one again, but as you can imagine it got too messy lol.

Hopefully we will be able to get some results one way or another. Either way, I will keep you all posted.

Have a lovely day,

Kind regards

Mariana, if it's text that is missing (namely: flowed text, see https://inkscape.org/en/learn/faq/#flowed-text-doesnt-show-exported-file), convert the flowed text into normal texts, or convert them to paths. (Either: Text -> Convert to Text, or Path -> Object to Path).

Hi Moini,

Thank you for the tip, I am still waiting to hear back from the printers. I've sent them the new file as well, but I will create another one including the things you've comment on.

Hopefully, we'll get this sorted soon.

I'll keep you guys in the loop.

Cheers.
