Title: rubber stamp making
Post by: johnnicholson on July 26, 2019, 12:43:06 PM
I got a svg file (harriet tubman stamp).

I don't know how to assign colors to parts of it.  If I am correct, some of the stamp should be raised, but I don't know how to do that.

the file is here:  https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2537926

if I could be led in a direction I would appreciate it
thanks

When you say you want certain portions raised, are you thinking Inkscape is a 3d modelling program?  Because it's not.  Inkscape can simulate 3d, by creating shadows and highlights.

Looking at the SVG file, it appears to be all ready to add fill color.  First, all the fills and strokes are unset, which should mean they look black, but instead, everything is invisible.  (I don't know why.)  So I had to do Select All, and add a stroke, to see the paths.  Then you'll be able to see which path you want to fill with which color.

Help menu > Tutorials > Basic, Shapes and Advanced.  Those 3 tutorials will give you a good start, and probably tell you everything you need to know.

thanks I'll look it over.
I know inkscape isn't a 3-d program.
but when I cut out on the laser cutter, the stamp (rubber) has to have high and lower areas.
getting closer, I see where I might have to invert and add a while background.  will report back
