Title: Display Lab colors
Post by: ChameleonScales on February 05, 2019, 07:33:01 AM
Hi,
Is it possible to display L.a.b colors on the canvas?

I tried going to Document Properties > Color, select Lab2Lab in the dropdown and click on the + to add it, save and revert the file but that didn't work.

I think it is possible to display the colors (as far as the monitor goes), but it's close to impossible to get them out of Inkscape safely.

Try the preferences, Input/Output > Colors. There are a couple of options. I think the manual should have some info about it, too.

http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Attributes-Fill-Stroke.html , search for 'management'.

Thanks. Lab is not in the list so I tried Wide Gamut but it displays very desaturated colors and I don't know why.

The whole color profile issue is mostly over my head.   But I had the impression that you would need to have the profile installed on your computer or monitor, as well as have Inkscape set to use it too.  Once it's on your monitor, I think it would show up in Inkscape.

Although again, that's just the impression I have, and not any real knowledge.

Brynn is right, it needs to be available on the computer in order to be used. Inkscape doesn't come with color profiles.
