Title: Error when rotating object
Post by: luthientinuviel on April 13, 2018, 02:51:39 PM
Windows 10 Pro x64 on a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop running Inkscape 0.92.2

I keep getting this error when I try to rotate that rectangle. I have already tried to save a new copy and open a back up. Every time I try to rotate it, the program crashes.

1. Are you using the latest Inkscape version, 0.92.3? If not, please uninstall your current version, then download the new one and install it.
2. If that doesn't help, or you're already using 0.92.3, please share the SVG file with instructions (click by click) what to do to trigger the crash.

I am using 0.92.2, but I was able to do a work around by importing the SVG into a new file. The other one still throws the error but at least I can continue on with my work.

What's your reason for not updating? The latest version fixes many crashes and some weird bugs, especially for Windows users. It does not contain new features (at least not more than a new handle and a new button for the text tool), and is safe to upgrade to.
Just make sure you uninstall, and then install the new version, to avoid upgrading issues.

People have all sorts of reasons for not upgrading a program immediately when an upgrade is released.  If I did not occassionally need to test for bugs, I probably would only upgrade the major version releases, and skip the point releases.  And even then, I would wait at least a few months after the release.

At least half my reason is the annoyance factor.

But the point releases are those that fix issues in the previous versions - and that's the only thing they do.

I don't understand why one would complain about a problem in a previous version that might be fixed in a later one, and still not update, even if it's entirely safe. It's a 5 minute thing... Why use a workaround when it could be fixed already?

They are in Inkscape, and at least they are currently.  But most users don't know that.

I don't understand why one would complain about a problem in a previous version that might be fixed in a later one, and still not update, even if it's entirely safe.

The key word there is "might".  Why bother upgrading if there's a remote chance that my particular problem is a bug (in the first place) and has been fixed by a new point release (even more remote).  By the time I do the research to figure out if my problem is a bug and whether it has been fixed, I could have posted in the forum and found a solution.  Which is exactly what we see happens.

You're right, I thought I had explained that somewhere on the thread already, but seems I hadn't.
