When I change the layer of a string of text the height and width changes and I have no clue why?

InkScape .923
Windows 10

A little more detail.
1. I duplicated a string of text on Layer A
2. While the string of text remains on Layer A the highlighted outline (width and height) remain the same even if I change string value.
3. As soon as I move the string of text from Layer A to Layer B the highlighted outline increases in size. However; the font size: (pt) remains the same.
4. I happen to be creating multiple layers in succession under one another and just duplicating the text, moving it to the new layer, and changing the text value. This started happening on my 3rd layer down, the first 2 worked fine.
5. I'm using the layer move method from the right mouse button menu.

Scratching my head as to what may be causing the phenomenon?

Thanks in advance.

When you say "highlighted" do you mean the bounding box (dashed line rectangle) (or with Text tool, sometimes it's a thin blue line rectangle)?  I tried to highlight some text with Text tool, and move it to a new layer, but it un-highlights when I right-click.  So you must mean the bounding box?  Also, do I understand that you're not switching out to the Selection tool at all?  You're doing this all with the Text tool, right?

When you said

in succession under one another

Do you mean you're moving the text down through the layer structure or up?  I'm having some trouble moving it down, and using your routine.  But I can move the duplicates up, and I didn't see the problem you described.

Are you moving the text over before you edit?  Or are you editing right on top of the original?

Are you able to make us a video?  I can't reproduce it so far, but I'd like to see what it looks like.  And if it's a bug, the video will help with the report.

Please find attached a screen capture video of the problem.

Notice on the first duplicate and layer change the selected font outline does not change but the second time the same set of operations take place the font outline increase on its own.

Hope this helps diagnose what may be going on.

Could you share the SVG file with us?

Meanwhile, I'll try to reproduce with those steps.  I was getting lost with editing the text, before.  But it seems not to matter about editing the text.

Back shortly.....

Maybe it's something about that specific text or font?  I can't reproduce it myself.  But if you could share that SVG file, I'll test with it, and investigate.

Edit

Or possibly something about the layer?????

Attached is the SVG file.

Remember the problem did not occur on the first duplicate \ layer change operation so that would lead me to believe it is not font style related.

Anyway, let me know if you need anything else.

YES!  I just figured it out!  One split second before the end of the video, I notice on the status bar that after you move the text to the new layer, the object has acquired a filter.

That could happen if the layer has a blend mode applied to it.  Or there could be some other reason.  I'll check the SVG file now, and be right back.

Hhmm....  I've never seen a blend filter extend the bounding box like that before.  And it does not extend the bounding box for me.  But I don't have that font installed, so whatever I'm seeing here is not the same font.

Select that font with the large bounding box (or use the status bar to confirm that you have the right one) and do Filters menu > Remove Filters.  Hopefully that will fix the bounding box.

This is a known issue, but is not currently recognized as a problem by everyone.  I see it as a problem, myself.  Anyway, if you move any object out of a layer which has a  blend mode applied to it, the object will acquire the same blend filter, and carry with it to its new layer.

That's why it only happens when you move from layer Flores, which has the Multiply blend mode, to layer Anyaso.

I just realized, it doesn't extend the bounding box for me because I use a geometric bounding box (not visual bounding box).

But if you don't want the filter, you should remove it anyway.  And if you don't really want a blend mode on the layer, you should set that to Normal.

I wonder how I am accidentally applying filters to layers? I am just creating them one after another and have no need for any filters.

It could happen by accident.  Maybe you clicked the Blend Mode dropdown menu, either by accident, or curiosity, and forgot to switch it back?  It's just that one layer.  All the rest are ok.

Anything that moves through that layer will get the same filter.  I disagree with that particular functionality, and I've filed a request to make it optional.

Make sure the Blend Mode for that layer is set to Normal.

Thanks for your help, I will have to keep a better eye out on the FILTER settings, I think this is twice or so in the past couple of years that I have inadvertently set some type of filter that have caused unwanted results that I had to seek help for.

I have one other issue unrelated but I will start a new thread to discuss it.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
