...all about cats this time - high five!
-
Will you sew in the whiskers by hand? Or just set the machine for an outline stitch? Will you try lexelby's extension this time?
....Hhmm, I wonder if the whiskers in the "eyebrow" area are still called "whiskers"? You probably already know this, but one of the toes didn't get transferred in the color version - it's a high 4.
Looks like such a sweet kitty! Somehow I can see someone on their belly with a camera. Or else there's a naughty kitty on the counter or cabinet, haha.
-
Hi guys, I was just browsing thorough the forum and I am not seeing any photos! Would love to see the cats. Did I turn something off when the pictures and not downloading?
-
Hhmm....it might be a problem with the forum. I know the image was showing fine before. Let me investigate.
Edit
Until I can fix it, you can follow this link to see the image: http://www.haifashion.de/images/cat.jpg
The chicken topic has way too many photos for me to retrieve all the links for you. But hopefully I can get this fixed pretty soon.
-
I think the problem with the images is fixed now. Let me know if you still can't see them.
-
No not on my computer.
-
Ok, there's only one image in this topic, in the first message. It's a scanned in, hand drawing, beside the Inkscape version (orange and white). You don't see that?
There are some profile options, which I think you can stop images from showing. But then, you wouldn't see images in any topic. Let me do some research...
Edit
Hhm, nope, I was wrong about that. If you don't see that image in the first message....I'm not sure why that might be happening. I'll give it some thought, and try to figure out where the problem might be.
-
..back again. maybe the problems with missing images are related to server problems, should be fixed now.
Will you sew in the whiskers by hand? Or just set the machine for an outline stitch? Will you try lexelby's extension this time?
the whole thing will be stitched by the machine. i am still using lexelbys extension just for fun at the moment. for bigger projects i am using a commercial tool. it's less time consuming to get satisfying results and more handy so i still have no choice to use inkscape for the svg - artwork and the commercial tool for calculating the pattern.
i'm almost ready to calculate the embroidery - template from the svg but i'm still looking for a hint or a shortcut to do this task: i have to convert all overlapping paths into adjoining areas. you could do this by using the "difference" modifier with the paths, but this is pretty time consuming when you have a couple of paths and shapes because you have to do it one by one. another option would be to export the image to a png, import it and trace by colors while not layering the resulting paths. this is less time consuming but i still have a lot of work to clear all the redundant nodes generated by tracing from a png espc. at the edges.
so do you have an idea - is there a way to convert all overlapping paths of an svg-image into adjoining paths/areas by a single or a couple of clicks without exporting to a png and tracing the image?
-
... not that I know of. The only shortcut I can suggest if you want to save the export step: you can make a bitmap copy.... :-/

ok, that's pretty bad. the process exporting to bitmap is lossy and i have to clean up so much nodes after tracing the bitmap, this is annoying..
seems i forgot to post the actual state of the cat - template, so here it is:

I'm not sure if I understand the problem clearly. For overlapping areas becoming unique paths, I wonder if the Paint Bucket tool would be helpful? I know that it's not very precise. But with the Grow/Shrink setting, you could probably get close to a few thread-widths exactness (but not preciseness).
-
The images are gone again - at least I don't see the cat anymore... :/
-
Since the image in the op is also missing, I think this problem is related to ha1flosse's server (since he mentioned problem with his server before). But I'll look further into it, just to be sure.
-
hey, the server is responding and the blog @ haifashion.de also - if you copy/paste the image link from my last post into your browser the image is displayed properly, like all images from the server in other forums too, so maybe its somehow related to the forum...
the opening - image of the thread has been deleted due the lack of webspace.
-
Hhmm, I don't understand why they don't show up.
Testing:

It must be the image proxy. Working on it.

I just can't figure out why your image won't show. Still working....

I don't think it's the image proxy anymore. But I still haven't figured out what the problem is. Still working....

Ok, the problem with the missing images is fixed. The problem was a malfunctioning forum feature. The feature is designed to prevent visitors from seeing the unencrypted page or insecure page alert, which most browsers will be displaying, when images which are hosted on non-https servers are inserted in that topic. So now we have the images back, but unfortunately, we now have to live with that unencrypted page alert.
It should be possible to disable that alert from your browser controls. For my browser though, you can't disable it selectively. Like for example, if you trust this site, don't show the alert. Maybe some browsers allow you to whitelist sites, I'm not sure. But mine doesn't. (To be honest, I'm getting tired of seeing that alert all over the internet, so I might just disable it myself.)
Hopefully they will get this feature fixed in the next forum upgrade.
-
Don't disable it. Just. Don't.
Rather ask people to switch to https. ha1flosse, don't you have SSL for your site? It doesn't cost anything, and will also give you better search machine rankings. See http://letsencrypt.org/ .
-
I'm afraid that I don't feel like it's my responsibility to ask people to switch to https. There are all kinds of image hosts and servers which have not switched over yet. For example, in my other forum, someone uses TinyPic to host their images, and none of their images use https URLs. So I don't have time to contact everyone who doesn't use a secure image host. I have my hands full with my server/sites and Inkscape projects. The way I see it is this just an uncomfortable time on the internet, while we wait for everyone to catch up. Eventually SSL will be ubiquitous (?? wow, where did that word come from, haha! Sometimes I'm banging my head to try and think of the word which I can't remember, and other times, strange words just pop out!).
I've never heard of it being free. As far as I understand, you have to buy an SSL certificate. I guess I've seen some hosts which offer it for free, but to my knowledge, that's only because that's how they have configured their services. They still have to pay for it.
It looks like that site/service (which you referenced) is depending on donations to pay for the certificates. Good for them! But will they always be able to do this? We could have a downturn in the economy, and they go out of business. Then what?
Just to be clear, I'm not talking about disabling our SSL. I've just disabled the malfunctioning forum feature (image proxy).

after all, i made a testrun of the cat - template:

Let's encrypt is an open source project, just like Inkscape. They are not only backed by major open source organizations, like the Linux Foundation, but also by google and other major players, as well as by a community. It's not going to go away in the near future. And yes, it's free. Not only as in beer, but also as in speech.
-
..let's encrypt is a pretty interesting and nice project.
actually, i dont' have shell access to the server of my site and can't put the encryption into place myself. and i pay very little hosting fees due the lack of features and very small-sized webspace.
sorry moini, encryption would raise the hosting - costs and i don't get any cent from my publications to refinance the hosting fees. also i don't sell any pieces of art, which would cover the costs. so i think i can't provide any encryption in the future..
