Yes, probably. Unless you accidentally converted all contents of your drawing to patterns. You can do Object > Pattern > Pattern to objects on a patterned object to convert it back, if that's the case.
Statistics: Posted by Moini — Sat Dec 07, 2019 2:24 am

Sorry, it's not clear to me what you want yet.

So, what I understand is:

You want to have a text that follows a path, and is centered on that.
Text > Put on path works for you.

It seems you want to have the same text linked to a different line, is that correct?

If that is the case, then:

- Ctrl+C the text
- Paste it
- Text > remove from path
- Text > put on path with the other path

or:

Make a copy of the text before you put it on the path and put only the copies on different paths.

or:

Edit the text attributes to point to the id of the new path in the XML editor.

It doesn't look as if anyone has created a feature yet to link the text to a different path, when the path is copied along with the text.
You can make a feature request for that at https://inkscape.org/report .
Statistics: Posted by Moini — Fri Dec 06, 2019 5:32 am

My first experiences with Inkscape - A true story

I really need to do that diagram for the paper I'm writing. I could do it in GIF, but it would actually be better if I did it in SVG. Maybe I should finally learn to use Inkscape, that's been recommended. It's already installed on this computer.

OK, start it up, blank diagram, ok, let's see, first make a rectangle. Ah there's a tool for rectangles, That looks easy enough. Hmm, not the defaults I would use for drawing a rectangle, but I suppose they've done usability analysis that shows this is what most people want. 50 pixels is too thick a line, how do I fix that. Click on Stroke? No, that just says it's a rectangle; what's this thing down here...ah opacity, no good. Right click and select Object properties? No. Right click and select Fill and stroke? Ah yes, under stroke style, and I can fix those rounded corners as well.

Now to draw a straight line. Hmm, nothing obvious as there was for rectangle. Let's see what the hover text says for each tool: Spirals, no; Freehand lines, no; Bezier curves, no; calligraphic strokes, no. Hmm. Looks like I'll have to check the documentation. There's a Help menu. Ah tutorials: basic. Let's see. Panning, zooming, managing documents, creating shapes, moving scrolling and rotating, transforming, selecting, grouping, filling, duplicating, aligning, z-order. How odd. Nothing on lines. There's another tutorial on shapes...no nothing there.

Ok, let's start reading the Inkscape manual... strange, doesn't seem to have anything on lines either. Let's check the Comprehensive index... Only line spacing and line widths. How odd.

OK, time to go to the internet, Google "inkscape draw straight line"; oh wow! Lot's of people asking that question, I'm glad it's not only me then! Best take the top result. Ah, on the Inkscape forum, they'll know the answer.

Whoa! The guy asking this seems pretty frustrated, he must have just gone through what I went through. Oh dear, looks like they're not very friendly here, rather than just answering the question they're treating him like a child, and telling him to read the manual. Apparently they haven't read their own manuals. If this is the top search result, it's going to frighten off a lot of newcomers.

Hmm, here's an answer that suggests using the bezier tool. Let's see if that works. Click here, click there, No! That's straight alright, but it's a weird shape. Hmm, here's another answer telling the poster that he didn't try hard enough! Wow. Here's someone wondering if the original poster is a Troll. Good grief, they really don't like newcomers here. Here's someone suggesting reading the tutorials again.

Ah, here, answer number 17 "Use the pencil tool". Let's see, I didn't notice a pencil, oh that thing, "Freehand line"? That's not what I wanted. Let me try it. OOOOH! I see! It's just labelled wrongly. That's not a freehand line, that's the tool for drawing straight lines. Well, that's solved that then.

OK, I sure hope someone files a bug against Inkscape about the mislabelling of the line tool.
And I sure hope that someone files a bug against all the documentation that fails to mention how to draw a line.
And I sure hope someone files a bug against the forum, about being friendly and helpful to newcomers, and answering the bloody question.
Statistics: Posted by stevenpemberton — Thu Dec 05, 2019 11:38 pm
