Re: Kerning and Ligatures in Inkscape

Hi Moini, yes, that might be related to the pango version you're using. Tav mentioned that some changes were made to the Pango libs, and that appears to have happened relatively recently. But it could also be related to the font you're using maybe?

Re: Kerning and Ligatures in Inkscape

For everyone wondering what the status of this is: Tavmjong Bah has implemented the font variants in Inkscape, see http://tavmjong.free.fr/blog/?p=1442. This will be available in the upcoming v0.92, but if you're impatient then you can try the development builds.

Re: shape rotation

Good point, that is a downside of the measurement tool.

I think we should file a feature request for that. It would be cool if we could somehow select one of the measurements and copy that, but I don't know how exactly that should work GUI-wise...

Re: shape rotation

If the shape is so random, you can trace a path over it you want to be horizontal after rotation (two clicks with the pen tool), convert it to a guide (Shift+G), double click it and copy the rotation value, then select the original object, and in the transformation panel (Shift+Ctrl+M) set the same...

Re: (Parts of) separate intersecting paths to one object

Snapping in the node tool has been improved in rev. 14189. When double clicking to insert a node, Inkscape will now snap to any intersections of the path with itself or with other paths. Also, when grabbing a point on the path and dragging this in order to deform the path, this point will now also s...

Re: (Parts of) separate intersecting paths to one object

One thing that is missing is that the node tool should snap to intersections when inserting nodes (by double clicking).

Re: Inkscape and Eclipse

Hi elecman, Have you figured out what was wrong? I'm running into the same issue on Fedora 22, so this is NOT a windows issue. Clearly the instructions you referred to are wrong, I noticed the same! Problem is hardly anyone of the devs uses Eclipse, so that's why you're not getting a reply on the ma...

Re: Snap sloppiness

Obviously there is no effort towards making it more intuitive at all. Please be careful in your judgement, you're getting close to being just rude. If you'd be watching Inkscape's developments, which are slow admittedly, then you'd have known this is simply not true BTW, if the software was truly o...

Re: Snap object to path

Please note that you cannot snap bounding boxes to paths/nodes, and vice versa. This is also why they're in separate groups on the snap toolbar. The underlying reason for this is that when using a visual bounding box, the bounding box encompasses the stroke width, and therefore the corners are off t...

Re: Paste, move colored squares - but keep them aligned to g

Once an object is snapped to a grid, please consider pressing the ALT key while dragging: this will move the object at multiples of the grid's pitch, making sure that it will always stay aligned to the grid.

Re: Prevent a group of object(s) from snapping

Hi Grobe, What if you'd select "only snap node closests to pointer" in the preferences? That should give you more control with respect to what snaps. Just grab the selection there where you want snapping to occur. In the latest nightly builds, you can even use the tab key to cycle to the s...

Re: snapping to line with restricted movement

Good to hear, and thanks for testing! The change in snap button behavior was on purpose, but I don't recall the exact reason. I guess that in general one wants to snap to cusp nodes, but not to smooth nodes. However, paths that have been drawn using the freehand tool or which have been traced from a...

Are you refering to ww.partha.com? Never heard of that site before, but I don't see anything newer than v0.48.4?

The newest nightly I can find for windows is http://www.oss-marketplace.com/index.ph ... versionen/, which is only two weeks old.

Re: snapping to line with restricted movement

I know of some snapping issues in 0.48.3 / 0.48.4, don't know exactly which version, but I'm currently running rev. 127xx myself. If you could try to reproduce this bug in a recent nightly build, then I promise to fix this before v0.49 is released if this bug is still present. Do we have a deal ;) ?...

Re: Unwanted "snapping"

The snap toolbar state is stored in the svg, together with the document properties, so uploading an svg will explain a lot already. Some more general snap settings which are not document related but more user preference related are however indeed stored in the preferences. But, please tell us what v...

Re: nelchai's intro and discussion

Hi Brynn, if you look closely, snapping can often off by as much as 0.1 to 0.2 px. I haven't done any specific tests, but just in every day use, I've noticed that sometimes, like snapping to a grid, it snaps precisely. But other times, Inkscape seems to think close enough is ok. Can you tell me exac...

Re: snapping arch's end to guide line

That's tricky indeed! I only know that you can sweep any 2D profile along a path, in all 3D mechanical CAD programs. You might achieve some calligraphic like effects with these and then export to stl. Sweeping a 3D body along a path is something I've never seen before... The only program I can think...

I don't understand why you are creating all these individual cross-sections manually. Can't you just create a 3D volume in Blender / SketchUp / ... and create the cross sections automatically?

Re: snapping arch's end to guide line

Ouch, scaling is not a very comfortable workaround :( Some comments: - To snap to the guide - path intersection in v0.48: first move the guide's origin along the guide (press ctrl while dragging the origin) and snap it to the path. Now you will have a node at the intersection, to which you can snap ...

Re: snapping arch's end to guide line

Which version of Inkscape are you using? Have you tried a nightly build of the upcoming v0.49 yet? It has a lot of tiny snapping improvements! Snapping the handles of an arc while dragging them along the arc is not possible yet. Inkscape can currently only snap along straight lines, and as of recent...

Re: Why has the Inkscape team given up on OS X?

Some progress is being made on the Mac OSX front, but it's been a struggle for years unfortunately. I guess it's both because it's just plain difficult, and because most of the Inkscape devs are using Windows and Linux For the latest details, see e.g. this very recent discussion on the mailing list:...
