Re: How do I get colors right for professional printing?
I actually already know the Pantone colors for the logo in question. But... what do I do with those numbers? Is there somewhere to enter them in Inkscape? With th caveat I don't really know how this works, can you use this page http://www.excaliburcreations.com/pantone.html (or the like) to get CMY...

Re: Different object sizes in Inkscape vs Illustrator?
I'm going to guess it's because Inkscape assumes a resolution of 90 DPI, and Illustrator 72 DPI. I know you can't change Inkscape's, and Googling suggests you can't change Illustrator's either. The differences supposedly come out in the wash when you export, but in your case the transition doesn't i...

Re: Trouble creating radial clones
I tried, and it was Move the centre of rotation and Uncheck "Use saved position" that worked for me. Before unchecking, they rotated about the object's centre, ignoring the move (oh, yes, the "+" is the centre of rotation, or should be). Is it possible that some accidental groupi...

Re: Pixelation problem
1. Yes, it's to be expected. You've exported at 90dpi, the nominal 1 image pixel = 1 (screen) pixel setting, so if you zoom, the pixels are bound to show. You can export at a higher dpi, and rescale it down in your html. Modern browsers do this reasonably well. At the cost of extra bandwidth and so ...

Re: Making an svg signature with a transparent background
I'm sure I'm doing something silly. For example, perhaps the Path Trace has also traced a rectangle outside the signature, which is coming up white. I can't figure out how to chop the image into it's constituent paths to check this. You've likely traced the background. Select the traced thing, and ...

Re: Is it possible to make opposite of Stroke to Path
What I'd do is: Select the stroke with the node tool Select a node at one end, and "break path at selected node" - it's the 4th item on the nodes toolbar Do the same to a node at the other end Do "Path -> Break apart" You'll now have two paths, one for each side of the original s...

Re: Help with tracing an image then cutting it
Brynn, Print *and* Cut. Print a (non-svg) image, then cut around that based on an svg version. clk0555, I'd guess you're tracing a hollow image, and want only the outside part (e.g. If you were tracing an "O", you'd want to cut around the black outside, but not cut out the white inside). S...

Re: Tracing image to squares automatically?
/Addendum: I see what you want. I've had the same issue; the ability to turn off smoothing doesn't really work. What you can do is use "Tile Clones" of a pixel-sized square (you can scale it up after) with "Unset" colour over your bitmap, and get them the clones fill with the col...

Re: Tracing image to squares automatically?
I want each pixel to become a square, the reason is that I'm going to distribute screen dumps in a file format to students and can't in that format disable automatic interpolation between pixels resulting in the print-outs being kind of blurry. You want the pixels in some low-res image to display a...

Re: Significant Inkscape Problems
I need someone to confirm that I will likely have to buy Adobe products to do what I need to do. That's hard to answer. You haven't told us what you need to do. If what you need to do is create or edit Adobe Illustrator files or PDFs, then you'd probably be best buying Illustrator. If you just want...

Re: Document Properties > Background... Invisible?
Didn't work for me, as is, either. I suspect it's font issues.
When I selected it all, and did Path->Object To Path (which converts text to Svg paths, and is the canonical solution for font problems) the result did show up in Firefox.

Folks can discount html/browser issues, 'cos I looked at the referenced .png file, and it's got a white background. I'm going to assume it's the Cairo png issue unless cj4258 says different.

Re: Drawing a parabola ?
I've seen a page on how to draw a sine wave using splines before, so I did a web search... This page ( http://forum.datacad.com/viewtopic.php?t=8312&sid=c9e8f110662284f23e5110e9f342f156 ) says A three-point Bézier curve should produce a parabolic segment . So, assuming that's true, draw a single...

Re: Export as JPG?
The bitmap could then be scaled into a JPG using something like Gimp. The scaling-down process would have the effect of evening out the edges of curves and angled lines. That's not what I meant at all. You're throwing away information, and then it's a just a matter of taste as to whether Gimp's sca...

Re: Export as JPG?
Part of what attracted me to Inkscape and vector graphics in general, is the ability to achieve scalable graphics that don't develop jagged edges when zoomed. When I zoom in on a circle in Inkscape, my monitor can show the edges of the circle as being nice and smooth. If you stay in svg, you get ve...

Re: New to Inkscape - Performance & file format issues
Ah, cheapskate clients; know about them, too. druban's advice is correct; always save as svg, and export to png. The performance issues were in the conversion process, so that should avoid the problem. I'll add that it's worth taking the time to understand the page boundary and export options at an ...

I was replying to something where I thought there was fairly simple space to fill. The important thing really is to draw it the right way in the first place. So scribus text exports clearer then inkscape text exports? See this: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2007/06/font-rendering-respecting-the-pixel-grid.html I don't think Inkscape makes any attempt to align text with the pixel grid, which the article describes as the Apple philosophy. When you're a...
